The .275 H&H is a 7mm belted magnum from the early cordite era, built around the tapered H&H case that made the firm's magnums famous. It was intended for longer-range shooting of medium game such as antelope in Africa and red stag in the Scottish highlands, and was offered in both a rimless form for bolt actions and a lower-pressure flanged form for double and single-shot rifles. Western Cartridge Company offered American loadings from 1925 until U.S. production ceased in 1939. Today it is largely obsolete, long overshadowed by later and more efficient 7mm magnums like the 7mm Remington Magnum, and factory ammunition is scarce. It survives mainly as a collector's and classic-rifle chambering, with Holland & Holland continuing to supply factory-loaded ammunition and most other shooters relying on handloading to feed surviving rifles.
Introduced by the British gunmakers Holland & Holland in 1912 alongside the more famous .375 H&H Magnum, the .275 H&H Magnum was formed by necking down and shortening the belted .375 H&H case to fire a 7mm (.284) bullet.
