Extended predictions beyond 500 yards are modeled from the same G1 engine — useful for initial DOPE, but outside the 500-yard manufacturer-table validation audit. Confirm with observed DOPE, especially near transonic.
A retained-energy reference only — not a shoot/don't-shoot distance. Real effective range depends on your accuracy, shot placement, bullet construction, and conditions. The ~1,000 ft-lb (deer-sized) and ~1,500 ft-lb (elk-sized) figures are commonly cited rules of thumb, not standards.

The .350 Legend is best known as a deer cartridge for the growing number of jurisdictions where only straight-wall rifle rounds are legal, and it has become one of the most popular options in that niche. It delivers hard-hitting performance inside typical whitetail ranges while producing notably light recoil, making it well suited to younger and recoil-sensitive shooters. Ammunition and rifles are widely available and affordable, and the round chambers in both AR-15 and bolt-action platforms. Its limitations are ballistic: the low-BC bullets shed velocity quickly, so it is a short-to-moderate-range cartridge rather than a long-range one. In practice it is used for deer, hogs, and similar medium game, along with target practice and training.
Winchester introduced the .350 Legend in 2019, unveiling it at that year's SHOT Show as a purpose-built straight-walled cartridge. It was designed specifically for hunters in Midwestern states that restrict rifle hunting to straight-wall cartridges, offering a modern factory option in place of older or improvised chamberings. Rather than being formed from an existing parent case, it uses a new case sharing the .223 Remington's rim diameter, which lets it feed through AR-15 magazines and standard bolt-action actions with minimal modification.
