The .22 PPC is a specialist accuracy cartridge, prized in benchrest circles for the tight, efficient geometry of its short, fat case, which promotes uniform powder ignition and exceptionally consistent groups. Its stout case burns a modest powder charge to drive light .224 bullets at high velocity, giving it flat-shooting, low-recoil manners well suited to precision work and varmint shooting. In practice it outperforms conventional cartridges of similar or larger size, and it earned a strong reputation before the 6mm PPC drew away much of the competitive crowd. Its main limitations are practical rather than ballistic: it remains a niche, largely handloader-driven chambering with limited factory rifle and ammunition availability. Today it is valued mostly by accuracy enthusiasts, target shooters, and varmint hunters who appreciate its precision pedigree.
